Chairwoman’s Message

Good evening, ladies and Gentlemen,

As the chairwoman of Alliance Manchester Business School Alumni Association (Hong Kong) (AMBSAA (HK)) , it is with immense pride and joy that I extend my warmest greetings to you 200th anniversary of The University of Manchester (UoM) and 20th anniversary of Manchester Business School Alumni Association (China) (MBSAA (CN)). This momentous milestone is not merely a celebration of our past. It is a testament to our collective journey, a reflection of our shared values, and an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the future of UoM and MBSAA (CN).

This year 2024 is a special year celebrating 200 years of excellence of UoM and 20 years of excellence of MBSAA (CN) since its establishment in 1824 and 2004 respectively. The backdrop design of annual dinner is a Chinese character ‘Hey’. The literal meaning ‘Hey’ is joy, while ‘double happiness’’ are twin Chinese characters of joy. This is a representation of an everlasting and blissful bond which is often used to describe the joyous connection between partners in a committed relationship. This symbolises the anniversary of the business school and the collaboration between the local student and alumni community.

As a recent graduate of the Global MBA programme with the East Asia Centre, it has been an amazing learning journey with fellow students, alumni, and academic support teams. I am immensely proud of the diversity of background, career and perspectives of The University Manchester. The sustained recognition of excellence in the academic field, and a global network of 500,000 plus graduates in more than 190 countries worldwide are truly incredible. The experience I have gained has positively impacted my personal growth and career opportunities.

I was the student representative for my past two years of MBA journey. I have participated in different events organised by The Centre and MBSAA (CN) in Hong Kong and also in Shenzhen, such as ACCA Rickshaw race, elderly home visit, summer networking party, alumni sharing session etc. I enjoyed both the happy moments of the activities and also the hardship of study.

I hope to contribute to alumni association and carry forward the spirits of MBSAA (CN). My objectives are to promote the community spirit of MBSAA (CN) and to foster a sense of belonging of current students and alumni, make them feel welcomed and supported, to provide a professional platform for current students and alumni to share their professional knowledge, adding value and up-skilling for each other; and also to encourage members to volunteer and contribute to the society by collaborating with local charities, along with enhancing MBSAA (CN) image and reputation. As we reached the milestone of 200th and 20th anniversary, MBSAA (CN) is dedicated to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and engagement. We envision a future where alumni not only maintain their connection to the university but also actively contribute to its growth and development.

I would like to introduce my board members for the upcoming year.

Vice Chairwoman Ms Bonnie Ho, Honorary Secretary Mr Chris Carlin, Honorary Treasurer Ms Yvonne Lee, Member Executive Ms Lucilla Tang and the Board members Ms Mancy Ho, Ms Rosanna Lin, Mr William Chan and Mr Jean Cheng.

On behalf of AMBSAA (HK), I extend my heartfelt gratitude to East Asia Centre team in support to the development and growth of the alumni association, the founding chair and advisor of MBSAA (CN) Ms Pauline Lai, advisor Ms Janny Shum, Legal Advisor Mr Godwin Ng, former Centre Director Ms Christina Siu and current Centre Director Ms Olivia Chan along with the excellent support team and past board members and alumni for your unwavering commitment. Your contributions have been invaluable to the alumni community bound by shared experiences and aspirations. I am profoundly grateful for your continued support and engagement. It is an honour and privilege for me and my fellow board members to serve you all, and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

Warmest regards,

Queenie Ng
