12 September – University of Manchester Alumni Reception, Hosted by the President & Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell

A most successful Alumni Reception and Annual Dinner was hosted by the President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell on the evening of 12th September in Hong Kong, well attended with over 180 alumni and students from Hong Kong, US, South China, Japan and South Korea. The President gave an update on major developments at the University including:

  • writer and broadcaster Lemn Sissay MBE being elected as the next Chancellor of The University of Manchester
  • the Chancellor of the Exhequer, George Osborne, officially opening the National Graphene Institute
  • the announcement of the huge new development of the new Engineering campus, the MECD Project
  • the opening of the new Manchester Cancer Research Centre
  • the stunning new extension to the Whitworth Art Gallery which has brought two major awards and one prestigious nomination to Manchester: Museum of the Year 2015, North West Building of the Year 2015 and the Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize Shortlist
